Sun 24th August - 2025 Finals Day
1.00pm - Semi-Final 1: Merriott v Beaminster Knappers
3.00pm - Semi-Final 2: MDA v Mapperton Marauders
5.00pm - Final: Merriott v MDA

MDA retained the Middleton-Hands Trophy in a nail biting final at Broadwindsor CC on Sunday.

In the first semi-final, Beaminster Knappers elected to bat and Dan Spiller (22) and Chris Lamb (20) added 51 for the first wicket. The innings then somewhat stalled against accurate bowling and the final total of 101-5 off 16 overs looked under par. This proved accurate as Merriott cruised to the target in just 8.1 overs, Leo James (53 retired not out), and Sam Grinter (32no) led them home.

In the second semi final, Mapperton were put in and good contributions from Rollo Wood (29) and Ali Crawford (34) led them to 128-4, Toby Pattemore’s 2-3 the pick of the bowlers.In reply, Will Maltby (40), Pattemore (31) and Dean Hyett (25) saw MDA home by 6 wkts in the 14th over.

Ilminster took first knock in the final and were indebted to A.Hayton (31no) and C.Hayton (24) in their total of 109-8, with Ethan Robertson (3-23) and Jack Ronan (2-12) amongst the wickets. In reply, Maltby (28) and Dan Hillier (24) got early runs, but when they slipped to 77-5 the game looked in the balance. However, cool heads from Robertson (14no) and skipper Ryan Sweetman (14no) saw MDA squeeze home by 4 wkts with just 4 balls to spare.

Last seasons Finals Day was played in early May 2025 due to wet weather in late August and early September 2024.

Monday 5th May - 2024 Eve League Finals Day
MDA finally got their hands on the Middleton-Hands Trophy. Broadwindsor CC hosted the held over 2024 finals day on bank holiday Monday. MDA beat Mapperton by 9 wickets in the first semi-final.
Mapperton totalled 112-8 (Tom Fowler 50no, Tom Goatley 33no, Jack Ronan 3-7) but MDA cruised to the target in 10.2 overs, with Richie Runyard 50no and Dan Hillier 31no seeing them home.
In semi-final 2, Beaminster Knappers totalled 122-6 (Ross Baker 49, Johno Gudge 26) while Leo James took 4-10.
Merriott strolled home in 12.3 overs, with James 50no leading the way.
In a closely fought final, Merriott scored 132-4, Lockie Rice 53no and Callum Rice (27) top scoring. Runyard, with another unbeaten 50 along with Dean Hyett (52no) saw MDA reach the target with 9 balls to spare, leaving skipper Ryan Sweetman to lift the trophy after 5 times finishing runners up.

Merriott 138-3 (L. Rice 55 retired no, G.Adams 51 retired no, T.Mead 2-20) in 16 overs.

Merriott won by 9 wkts.

MDA 157 for 4 wkts (R. Kingston 52 retired no, L.Gurd 30 no) in 16 overs.
Wynyards Gap 102 for 8 wkts (A.Stover 53 retired no, J.Ronan 3-8) in 16 overs.
MDA won by 55 runs.

Competition rules 2025
We have 5 teams entered for the 2025 season.
The top 4 teams will qualify for Finals Day on Bank Holiday Monday 25th August (2 Semi-Finals and the Final).
2 points for a win. If scores are tied, the winners will be the team who lose the fewest wickets.
If teams level on points at the end of the group stage, positions will be decided on each teams run-rate.
All games to start at 6.15pm with a duration of 16 x 6 ball overs.
In the case of bad weather the umpires may reduce allotted overs with a minimum of 8 overs per side.
Batsmen to retire upon scoring 50 runs.
Each player (not including wicket keeper) must bowl one over before anyone bowls a second over.
A maximum of 10 balls per over (including wides and no balls).
The last 6 overs can be nominated by the captain up to a maximum of 3 overs per bowler.
Broadwindsor CC will supply umpires for each game (we may occasionally ask someone from each team to stand at square leg and each team to score their own innings).
Match fees are £33 per team, per game (£3 per player) payable by the captain on the night.
The fee includes a small buffet back at our clubs main sponsor, The Knapp Inn, Beaminster.
‍Drinks are available at the ground with an honesty tin.
In the case of bad weather we will contact you on the day and sort a re-arranged date.
